Iceland’s current #1

This is the #1 song this summer. It’s actually a makeover from this song, from 1966. The name “Vor í Vaglaskógi” means “Spring in Vaglaskogur forrest”. Vaglaskogur is fairly close to Akureyri on the north side of the country, where we go camping atleast once each summer. The song is a romantic song, saying the dreams of those who stay in Vaglaskógur will come true. Well, mine have atleast. Here is a live version of […]

Sounds like it’s summer

Summer is here and everything changes. The white cover that has been dominating our surroundings gradually diminishes and the spring starts to flourish everywhere. The sounds change aswell, birds chirping, motorbikes and lawnmowers make their mark on the summer sounds as well. This spring has been exceptionally pleasing, with +15°c almost every day. I even got a sunburn on my shoulders when we were paving around our new little flowerbed last weekend. +15° is brilliant […]

Akureyri: Cosy Town

It’s always interesting to find people who blog about my town. Simon Turner is an Englishman who lives in Reykjavik and during his visit up north he took some wonderful photographs of my little town that you should take a look at. His blog post is at:

North Iceland – Local gourmet

This video was published today. It shows an interesting view of the local food that we usually just call home food but is seen from a foreigners perspective. I’m really proud of it, especially my uncle the bacalao expert who makes the best salted fish in the world. (biased but true). Inspired by Iceland – Tom Sellers from Inspired By Iceland on Vimeo.

“Blizzard” – Winter festival in Iceland

One of the bigger projects that we did in February was the promo for a winter festival here in Akureyri called Eljagangur, or Blizzard festival and involves all kinds of winter sports – snowboarding, snowmobiles and even heli-skiing, which means you can be taken up to the top of the mountain by a helicopter and you can ski or snowboard downhill again. We did all the graphics, ads, website, social media and some print leaflets. […]

Have you ever felt a strong desire and longing for cushions? No, not really? Then you haven’t seen the notknot cushions by Ragnheidur Ösp / Umemi. They are just adorable little wool-warmers, weaved together to form well known knots and make any sofa look good. And they are hot, you can’t really open a design magazine these days without bumping into them (thank god they’re soft) in all those wonderful colors. The designer, Ragnheidur, was […]

Jón in color

He was our independence hero, his birthday is our independence day – June 17. His name was Jón Sigurðsson (1811-1879) and I remember how my grandparents spoke well of him, even though he was up well before they were. Now, designer Almar Alfredsson has made the most brilliant memorabilia, a replica of a copper plate from 1944 in caster, and in all the colors of the bow.

Friday pizza

We’ve taken up the custom, accidentally really, to always have pizza on fridays. And with young kids, always means without exception! We have a couple of nice pizza places here but usually I make pizza myself, it’s quicker, cheaper, healthier and basically more fun. Three years ago I stopped making yeast dough for pizza because the yeast makes me feel bloated and uncomfortable, instead I use gluten free baking powder which I’m sure you’ll find […]
