October will be a healthy month in this little home. Our plan is to skip sugar, wheat, corn and dairy – apart from butter, for these 30 days. Ok 31. The role model comes from Whole30 but it might not be as aggressive, my hubby did that in February (only 28 days, pah!) But still, it’s hard and will take great determination. For 30 days.

So today, when I came home with my youngster a bit earlier than planned, I made these coconut delicacies which will aid in bringing that sugar demon down when he wants to barge in.

If you’ve never tasted raw food candy before then you might find this a bit strange, the taste buds can get so out of control by eating sugary foods all day long. It’s rich in protein, the good fats and the rich cocoa flavour will surely have an effect on your sugar cravings.

Use organic and fair trade as possible.

Coconut Balls

Ingredients
1 cup walnuts
1 cup hazel nuts
1 cup coconut flakes
1,5 cup dates (soak in water for about an hour, even longer)
2 tbsp almond butter (easy to make in advance. Soak white almonds overnight, drain them, add to mixer with a bit of olive oil till it becomes buttery)
2 tbsp peanut butter (clean, no sugar or artificial ingredients. If it has a cartoon character on then its probably loaded with sugar. I prefer Rapunzel)
1/2 tsp vanilla powder (not drops or vanilla sugar)
3 tbsp cocoa powder (organic & fairtrade) even more if you want a richer taste.

Method

Mix all ingredients together, form them and roll in coconut flakes. Place in cooler and store in the freezer.

They are high in calories but nutritionally they are a bomb and should be enjoyed with a moan! 🙂
